Soccer was actually the first college sport I took pictures at.  I joined the photography club and learned that they had sports passes we could use, so I walked from Holmes over to the soccer field with a pass and my Canon t3i and took pictures.  After a few games I talked to Justin Pondexter and he told me about the position as a student photographer with Clemson's Athletic Department Media Team.  I emailed Brian Hennessy my portfolio (this we...

Getting in

Clemson built a new tennis facility that opened January 2019 so it's a really nice building with decent lighting.

Walk in the main entrance by the soccer fields and go up the stairs in front of you.  Continue straight through the glass doors and you should be in the upper floor of the tennis area with all the fans.  There's a staircase on either side of this area and it probably has a barrier in front of it that says "Coaching s...

Getting in

With your media pass you can walk in pretty much any normal entrance you want, just flash your badge.  They'll probably do a quick search of your bag then you're good to go.

The picture above illustrates the route I take to get in.  I enter the normal entrance on the Jervey/parking lot corner, walk allllll they way around to the far end of the stands, then walk down some green stairs (guarded by an EPI staff member, just sh...

This gives a brief tutorial about shooting basketball games at LittleJohn at Clemson.

Where to Enter (as a photographer)

The best place to enter Littlejohn is shown in the diagram below.  There is a loading dock that is on corner of Littlejohn closest to the volleyball/baseball parking lot.  Enter the door on the right.  If you have your media pass, just walk in wearing it and you should be fine.  If you're picking up a pass from "the EPI table"...

Acquisition

One common way to acquire your media is known as Torrenting.  You've probably heard of it.  Other people have the media on their computer, you use a torrent client to download little slices of the media from different people until you have the entire file(s) on your system.  Then you can Seed the media so that other people can download it from you.

Torrenting is great, but you don't really want to do it without a VPN du...

I'm doing a Christmas light show to music this year and I thought I'd share various resources that I slowly pulled together about creating fancy light shows

My DIY Enclosure

I wanted an enclosure that could switch A/C lights and also run a decent amount of pixels.  This is my solution - it has 8 AC power cords it can switch, and the two ESPixelSticks should be able to run up to 680 pixels each for 1360 total addressible RGB LED lights....

  1. No right-click option for “Go to”.  You can’t go to the definition of a variable, can’t go to the function, nothing.  The best you can do is double click it, ctrl+f, then click next until you find what you want.

  2. Autocomplete isn’t automatic.  Typing doesn’t normally autocomplete for you unless you press ctrl+space

  3. No dark mode.  I’ve only been working in VBA for an hour today and I can feel my retinas burning (Okay it isn’t t...

May 30, 2018

After a few weeks of ham and cheese sandwiches for lunch each day at work, I decided it was time to eat with a little more variety each day.  I found this subreddit about "Meal Prep Sunday", where the idea is that on Sunday you spend a few hours in the kitchen preparing food for the week.  I ordered these meal prep containers that have one main section and two smaller sections for sides.   I thought 10 containers might be too many, but it's bee...

1. Start with a clean kitchen.

This often happens after parents visit, or when a nice roommate cleans the place so that it's presentable and most functional.

2. Roommate cooks a meal.

Normal occurance, everyone should cook because it's cheap and you get food at the end of it.  (Disclaimer:  I cooked this meal.  Meatloaf, chicken pot pie, and crunchy chicken strips.  It was tasty)

3. Roommate leaves dishes in the sink "to soak"

I went on a vacation to Iceland the week before Christmas of 2018, and I had a blast!  We explored much of Reykjavik and went glacier hiking, horseback riding, and relaxed in the Blue Lagoon.

My friend Lauren Smith and I were talking the previous summer about where we want to visit eventually and we found that both of us really wanted to go to Iceland.  We did some math and found out that we could both afford the cost of a trip to Iceland, and w...

With Bitcoin rising so much I decided to buy/sell/trade some cryptocurrency.  Admittedly I don't really know what I'm doing, I'm just in it to hopefully make a little bit of money.  I do think that cryptocurrencies will be a growing market over the next few years as they become internationally adopted and we begin to be able to actually purchase things with them.

As an introduction, google "what are cryptocurrencies" and read a...

I explored Croft state park on November 14 - it's a nice little park!

Croft state park is barely outside of spartanburg, about 50 minutes from Greenville SC.

https://www.google.com/maps/place/Croft+State+Park/

The park has a lake, hiking trails, and lots of space for camping trailers.  It also has several equestrian facilities including an arena and 20 miles of riding trails.

A blog post I'll update periodically to follow my recovery after dislocating my shoulder for a second time.

12/12 - I did dumbbell curls with 20 pounds each yesterday!! No pain doing that.  I have surgery scheduled for January 9.  Apparently I have a 2cm tear in my labrum.  (The labrum is what keeps your shoulder in place)

11/30 - I'm using my right arm for almost all everyday tasks.  I can lift things, make food, open doors, pre...

My grandma (Mimi) got a new camera because her old one broke, so she gave me the old one to try to fix.  I took it apart but wasn't able to fix it, so once I decided it was un-fixable I tore it apart as much as I could.  I didn't keep most of the pictures, but here are a few pictures of the guts of a point-and-shoot camera from 10ish years ago.

After taking off the rear cover.  You can see the circles on the right where the nor...

Arduino electronics can be an expensive hobby, but it doesn't have to be.   If you want legitimate parts shipped in a timely manner you can buy them from Sparkfun, Adafruit, or some other respected outlet.

However, if you don't mind waiting about a month and only being 90% sure that parts will work, you can buy them directly from China on Ebay.  I've bought most of my components on Ebay over the last five years, and I've only ha...
