Most of the time we only see the end result of a project, not the problems and solutions that you encounter along the way.  I thought I'd share the daily struggles and fixes I've gone through in the making of a project.

My latest project is what I'm calling "Tiger Countdown".  It will use an LED matrix to display the days/hours/minutes until the next Clemson football game.  I thought this would be a fairly straightforward project, but it se...

I've shot a total of 6 Clemson football games so far, which I think qualifies me as experienced.  Through trial and error and talking with friends I've developed a schedule that I usually follow for shooting a game.

All of my times are approximate, change them if you do/don't want to take pictures at the Tiger Walk, band amphitheater performance, eat in the press box, etc.

First orient yourself by looking at this map.  the East zon...

Everyone knows that I love making Excel documents for everything.  I made a document where you can add in your classes for each semester and easily see when your semesters are and when co-op rotations happen, etc.  When you add a grade for each class it will automatically recalculate your GPA both for the semester and overall.

It also makes A's be green so that you feel good about yourself.

You can download the excel file here:

I know I've done a lot of random things this summer, and I wanted to see if writing them down would help me remember them in the future.

This is really a post more for me than anyone else, but I don't mind if other people know what I'm doing in my free time this summer.  So it probably isn't interesting to anyone else reading it, but I like it.

Onward: Idk man, I plan a few days in advance at most.

August 26 - Last Luau party

I started writing down my favorite quotes around 7th grade (2010).  I've slowly added a few each year, and the list has grown quite extensive.  I haven't rearranged the order at all, I add all quotes below the first quote.  Reading through them I can remember the approximate time of my life that I connected with each quote.  Maybe someone reading this will find a few sayings that they connect with.

Don't cry because it's over, smi...

Okay, maybe ridiculed is an exaggeration, but no one believed it would happen.

At Duke TiP summer camp after 7th grade, I took a course on Mechanical Engineering Problem Solving.  Our final project was to come up with either a new product or improvements on a current product.  We would do research, design graphics for it, and eventually give a 10 minutes presentation on our product.

I decided to make improvements to watches, mostly b...

I've had a few ideas of products/services/companies I/someone could start over the years, and haven't pursued any yet.  This idea seems the most practical to pursue(the equipment necessary is cheap, and I already have some experience with it), but I probably won't end up doing it.  After some more research, a company called Octoprint has already done much of the work I describe below.  Their service is still very DIY, so the main difference is...

Well. Cassidy and I broke up yesterday.  We started dating in August 2016.  Yesterday we talked and decided that the two of us wanted different things out of the relationship, one wanting it to be more serious than the other.  Even though we get along together, that's a fundamental problem that wasn't going to get better and that neither of us can fix.  It isn't either of our faults, but it's not going to change.  So we agreed that it wasn't go...

Starting May 15, 2017, I began a co-op with Advanced Automation, which is a sub-company of Doerfer Companies.  Advanced Automation (AA, which does not stand for Alcoholics Anonymous in this post) is described as a "supplier of automated process technologies".  My simple understanding of the company is that they make custom automated assembly lines.  So for example, if Xbox says they want to be able to assemble 720 Xbox controllers every hour, A...

I had a spare Sunday, and I decided to go to my parents' lake property.  I knew I wanted to go on a pretty long stand-up paddle board trip, so I came prepared with snacks, water, some beer, and a waterproof speaker.  I put all my supplies in a bag and used a carabiner to attach it to the board.  I set out around noon, and didn't get back until about 4:00

I used this map tool to map out the path I took once I got back, and it turns out that...

TL;DR The Paris Mountain fire tower trail does not have a fire tower at the top.  It was moved like 50 years ago.

As most of you know, I'm living in Greenville, SC until Christmas as I do my first co-op rotations at Advanced Automation.  I've been exploring the parks around the area, and last week I went to Paris Mountain for the first time.   It was after another day at work where I sat at the computer for most of the day, so I wanted to...
